Legends of Norrath: Player Manual
Legends of Norrath (LoN) is the trading card game built into the EverQuest client. On Triune it runs on our own server: your cards, decks, trades and ratings are stored with your account, and loot cards you win turn into real EverQuest items.
1. Opening the game
- Type /legends in game. The card game opens in its own window.
- Your collection belongs to your account, not to a character. Every character on the account sees the same cards.
2. Getting your first cards
- Every new account gets one random starter deck the first time it opens the card game.
- Visit Card Dealer Tessa in the Plane of Knowledge and hail her. Pick a free starter deck: Fighter, Mage, Priest or Scout. It's one choice per account, and she won't offer a starter you already have.
- Every account can also get one free booster pack from Tessa: choose free booster when you hail her.
- Tessa sells booster packs for 25,000 platinum each: choose buy 1 booster or buy 5 boosters when you hail her. The platinum comes from the coin on your character.
- Cards and packs from Tessa arrive the next time you open Legends of Norrath (/legends). If the game was already open, close it and open it again.
3. Packs
- Unopened packs are under Packs in your collection. Open them there.
- A booster holds 11 commons, 3 uncommons and 1 rare.
- The rare slot has a 1 in 8 chance to be an EverQuest loot card instead, and in sets that have them, a 1 in 8 chance to be an Ultra Rare.
- Your Loremaster level (section 6) adds 0.5% per level for an extra Loremaster loot card in each booster.
4. Loot cards and getting the item
Loot cards (gold "EverQuest Loot Card" frame, under the Loot tab) turn into the EverQuest item printed on the card.
- In the Loot tab, select the loot card and choose Redeem.
- The card is used up.
- The item does not go into your bags. It goes to your account's claim list.
- Log in on the character who should have it, type /claim (or open the Claim window), and claim the item.
Because the claim list is account-wide, you choose which character gets the item. If a redeem fails, the card is given back to you.
"Choose a Pack" cards work differently: redeeming one asks which booster you want, and that booster goes straight into your Packs.
5. Single-player scenarios
- Play the Tutorials first to learn the rules.
- Winning a scenario pays its reward card once per scenario and difficulty.
- A scenario's first-win loot card is paid once per account.
- A win only pays if the game lasted at least 3 turns and 2 minutes.
6. Journal and Loremaster
- Achievements in the Journal give Loremaster XP, and Loremaster XP raises your Loremaster level. Your Profile shows the level.
- Each Loremaster level adds 0.5% to every booster's chance of an extra Loremaster loot card.
7. Decks
- Build and save decks in the deck builder. Decks are stored on the server with your account, so they follow you to any computer.
- You can keep up to 5 custom avatars. Deleting one frees a slot.
8. Trading cards
- Live trades: meet another player in the Trade Lobby and trade face to face.
- Posted trades: post an offer that anyone, or one named player, can accept.
- Up to 20 public posts per account, and up to 50 cards on each side.
- The cards you offer are held while the post is open, so you can't open, redeem or trade them elsewhere.
- A post nobody accepts expires after 7 days, and your cards come back.
- Tradable: a loot card's For Trade count shows how many copies you can trade.
9. Playing other players
- Casual Games: in the Casual Games lobby, Create a match or Join one, and both players press Ready. Casual games are never rated. A win pays Journal entries.
- Tournaments:
- Join the Open queue in the Tournaments lobby.
- The tournament starts when 4 players have joined. It is single elimination, best of one, constructed decks, free to enter, with no item prizes. The reward is Journal entries and your ranking.
- One entry per IP address.
- If you're still in a game screen, match room or trade when your round starts, you have 3 minutes before you forfeit that pairing.
- Rating:
- Tournament games use a rating that starts at 1500 and moves at most 32 points a game.
- Conceding, disconnecting or not reporting a result counts as a loss.
- A game only counts if it lasted at least 3 minutes.
- Only 3 games a day against the same opponent count. Extra games stay on your Profile record but don't move your rating or pay the Journal.
- Games between two accounts on the same address never count.
- Leaderboard: you are listed as ranked after 5 rated games against at least 3 different opponents.
10. Common problems
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Redeemed a loot card, no item in my bags | That is expected. Type /claim on the character who should get it. |
| Cards or packs from Card Dealer Tessa are missing | Close Legends of Norrath and open it again. Deliveries arrive when the game opens. |
| The card game won't connect | Zone once, so your client picks up the current connection settings, then open the game again. If it still fails, post a bug report with your nms_crash.txt attached. |
| A PvP win didn't change my rating | Casual games are never rated. Tournament games count only after 3 minutes, against a different address, within the 3-a-day limit. |
Found a bug? Post it in the Discord bug-reports forum with your character name, the time (with your time zone), and your nms_crash.txt.
